Carter Elkins, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, received a baccalaureate degree from Marietta College. He received his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Mr. Elkins then served as a law clerk to United States District Judge Robert J. Staker of the Southern District of West Virginia.
Mr. Elkins has an active trial practice and is engaged in the defense of insurance companies on a direct basis, as well as for their policyholders. This trial practice includes civil rights, where he defends governmental agencies or officials, commercial litigation, insurance coverage disputes and the defense of bad faith actions brought directly against insurance carriers. He is routinely called upon to defend commercial motor vehicle operators by their insurers or employers.
Mr. Elkins is currently a member of the West Virginia State Bar and was formerly a member of the Defense Research Institute and the International Association of Defense Counsel. He is currently recognized as a West Virginia Super Lawyer and Best Lawyers of America and has been so recognized for more than 10 years.
